A first edition, second printing published by Yale University Press. A very good book with spotting to the endpapers – no inscriptions. In a very good unclipped wrapper with spotting to the endflaps. SIGNED by Dith Pran on the front endpaper with the inscription ‘Peace – Love – Compassion!/Dith Pran/ 3-98. 194 pages. The book has a “donated by the Dith Pran Holocaust Awareness Project” stamp on the front endpaper.
A collection of eyewitness accounts by Cambodians who were children during the brutal era of mass executions in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge of Pol Pot. Dith Pran was a translator and photojournalist working with New York Times correspondent Sidney Schanberg when the Khmer Rouge seized power in war ravaged Cambodia in the mid 1970s. Schanberg escaped the country but Dith Pran endured years of brutality and observed the program of mass murder by government in what he characterized as the “killing fields.” Dith Pran’s story would be told in the acclaimed 1984 film “The Killing Fields” based on Schanberg’s account of Dith Pran’s experiences.
