Erich Topp (1914–2005) was a German naval officer and one of Nazi Germany’s most successful U-boat commanders during World War II. He commanded U-57 and later U-552, known as the “Red Devil Boat,” sinking dozens of Allied ships during the Battle of the Atlantic. After the war, Topp joined the post-war West German Navy (Bundesmarine) and eventually rose to the rank of rear admiral.
