First edition, first printing. Published by Andre Deutsch in London, 1966. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper is strikingly illustrated by Stewart Black. It has not been price clipped and shows the original 25s net price. The wrapper is in near fine condition with some minor handling wear to the rear panel. The boards are free from notable chips and marks and the text blocks are bright with a touch of light spotting – the rear board has a minor bump and is a little bowed. This copy is free from previous owners ink and is, overall, in near fine (or better) condition.
It won the 1966 William Faulkner Foundation Award for notable first novel.
