Three-quarter brown leather over marbled boards; gilt decoration on spine with tan title label- “Nicholas Nickleby” in gilt. Mixed edition: has most of the first issue points listed in Smith. Two blank front endpapers, one blank rear endpaper. Name on front pastedown; stamped name on front endpaper. All 39 plates present, though have browning at edges; foxing to the first few pages
Originally published as a serial from 1838 to 1839. The character of Nickleby is a young man who must support his mother and sister after his father dies.
