A first edition, first printing of A Weekend With Claud by Beryl Bainbridge, published by New Authors Limited [Hutchinson] in 1967. A near fine book free from internal inscriptions, slight pushing to foot of spine and minor browning and spotting to text block. In very good unclipped wrapper with pushing to spine tips, chipping to knuckles of front and rear flap folds, closed tears to upper and lower edge of front and rear panel with some internal restorations, a former price ticket to the rear panel. Jacket design by Jack Larkin.
A Weekend with Claud by Beryl Bainbridge is a darkly comic novel about a disastrous weekend gathering. The story centres on four mismatched friends who reunite in a dilapidated country house. The weekend quickly unravels as old tensions and secrets resurface, leading to a series of absurd and uncomfortable events. Bainbridge’s sharp, witty prose explores themes of disillusionment, failed relationships and the often painful gap between expectations and reality, delivering a tale rich in irony and humour.
