A first edition, first printing by Hamish Hamilton in 1992. A near fine copy without inscriptions. Some browning to the text block with a slight, black stain to the base. In a like, unclipped wrapper showing some slight chipping to the head of the spine and one small closed tear to the top of the front panel.

Joint winner of the Booker Prize in 1992, the story is set in the mid 18th century and centres on a slave ship employed in a central trade route in the Atlantic slave trade. The narrative interweaves elements of appalling cruelty and horror with extended comedic interludes.
