Alan Sillitoe – The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner – First UK Edition 1959
£265.00
First edition, first printing. Published by W. H. Allen in London, 1959. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper, famously illustrated by Mona Moore, has some slight wear at the corners and bumping at the spine tips. There is heavy spotting to the top and page edge. There are some slight surface marks also present. It has not been price clipped, showing the original publisher’s price of 12s 6d net. The boards, in an attractive grey cloth and gilt titling, are free from notable wear though are slightly bumped in places. The internals are free from previous owner’s ink and the text blocks are free from foxing. Overall, this is a near fine copy of an iconic title.
Sillitoe’s second magnum opus (which contradicts the term, but the point stands). Adapted into a 1962 film starring Sir Tom Courtenay and Sir Michael Redgrave.
