First edition, first printing. Published by Collins, London, in 1941. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, designed by Thompson, has not been price clipped and shows the original 7s. 6d net price. The spine is slightly worn and toned and with mild wear at the top and tail edges. The rear panel is remarkably clean and mostly free from handling marks. The boards are mostly free from chips and marks, but the spine is faded. There is a slight crease to the front fly leaf, but the book is free from inscriptions. Overall, this is a near fine copy with a very good dust wrapper.

The novel is the first to feature the mature versions of her detectives Tommy and Tuppence, whose previous appearances had been in the adventure The Secret Adversary (1922) and the short story collection Partners in Crime (1929).
