£185.00

First paperback edition, first printing. Published by Penguin in London, 1948. This is a very good copy. The soft cover has some slight toning and spotting throughout, with some very slight rubbing at the corners. The original one shilling and sixpence price is present on the bottom right-hand corner. The text blocks are markedly clean for post-war paper stock and are free from foxing, though with additional marking present. The internals are slightly toned and marked in places. It features the previous owner’s inscription of Professor Edwin Alfred Dawes on the rear of the front panel. Edwin Dawes was a world-leading biochemist, founding chairman of The Philip Larkin Society and a large figure in The Magic Circle. Overall, this is a very good copy with great provenance.

The first paperback edition of the classic work, originally published in 1934.
