Agatha Christie – By The Pricking Of My Thumbs – First UK Edition 1968
£135.00
First edition, first printing of By the Pricking of My Thumbs by Agatha Christie, published by Collins Crime Club in London, 1968. This is a near fine copy, with internals free from internal inscriptions, in the original publisher’s rare green cloth boards with gilt lettering to the spine, with slight pushing to the foot of the spine and minor fading to the upper and lower edges of the front and rear panels, the text blocks with browning to the top edge, otherwise with very minimal spotting, ghosting to the front and rear free end papers and with minor spotting internally. The unclipped dust wrapper with fading to the spine, some chipping to the head and foot of the spine and knuckle of the rear flap fold, two small open tears to the lower edge of the rear panel and one to the upper edge, with slight browning. Wrapper designed by Kenneth Farnhill.
The title of the book comes from Act 4, Scene 1 of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, when the second witch says: “By the pricking of my thumbs,/ Something wicked this way comes.”
