J. K. Rowling, born Joanne Rowling on July 31, 1965, in Yate, England, rose to global fame as the author of the Harry Potter series. Before achieving success, she faced financial hardship and periods of depression. Her imagined world of wizards and magic soon captured readers across generations.

She published Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997, issuing it as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States. The novel quickly attracted a wide and devoted audience.
