A first edition, first printing of A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie, published by Collins in 1953. A near fine book with former retailer’s label to front paste-down, some minor discolouration to the extremities of the crimson cloth bound front and rear boards, some browning and pushing to the head and foot of the spine, browning to the text block, the interior without inscriptions. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with chipping to the head and foot of the spine, fading to the spine, two closed tears to the lower edge of the front panel, chipping to the lower edge of the rear panel, chipping to the knuckles of the front and rear flap folds, browning to the rear panel and rear flap.
A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie is a classic Miss Marple mystery. The story revolves around the murder of wealthy businessman Rex Fortescue, who is found dead with rye in his pocket. As more family members fall victim, Miss Marple uncovers connections to a nursery rhyme. Set in a 1950’s English country house, Christie’s intricate plot, red herrings and sharp characterisation make for a compelling and clever whodunit.
