PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed to front endpaper in the month of publication “With every best wishes from David Storey, April 1960”. In the original cloth, spine tips faded, dust-jacket with the Book Society wraparound band, spine slightly faded. Near fine in fine wrapper.
Storey’s powerful first novel, drawing on his own experience as a professional rugby league player, is one of the great northern novels of work, violence, class and frustrated aspiration. The inscription, dated April 1960, gives this copy a rare contemporary presentation.
