Frederick Forsyth – The Odessa File – First Edition 1972 – SIGNED with a line from the book by Frederick Forsyth, and with SIGNED plate from Jon Voight
£750.00
A first edition, first printing of ‘The Odessa File’ published by Hutchinson in 1972. A very good copy in a very good dust jacket of Frederick Forsyth’s classic thriller, The Odessa File. The book is clean, square and tightly bound, with no significant faults noted. The dust jacket remains bright and well preserved, showing only light signs of handling and wear consistent with age.
A particularly attractive association copy, boldly inscribed by Frederick Forsyth on the front free endpaper with one of the novel’s most memorable opening lines: “My name is Solomon Tauber, I am a Jew and about to die.”
and signed beneath:
For Niall, Frederick Forsyth
The quotation is taken from the diary of Holocaust survivor Solomon Tauber, whose testimony sets in motion the events of the novel and the pursuit of the notorious Nazi war criminal at the heart of the story. As such, the inscription is far more desirable than a standard signature, being directly linked to the narrative itself.
Included with the book is a separate signed bookplate bearing the signature of Jon Voight, who starred as Peter Miller in the acclaimed 1974 film adaptation of The Odessa File. The combination of Forsyth’s thematic inscription and the accompanying Jon Voight signature creates an appealing pairing between the author and the actor who brought the novel’s protagonist to the screen.
