£165.00

First edition, first printings of each volume in Wells’ longest novel, published by Ernest benn in 1926. Octavo, three volumes, original publisher’s cloth with gilt titles to the spines. Each volume is in very good condition and without inscriptions – although a name has been erased in each.
Wells’s vast 1926 novel, issued first in three volumes. It is less a conventional story than a blend of fiction, autobiography, and argument: Clissold reflects on religion, history, politics, sex, war, and the future of civilisation. The book is important because it shows Wells turning from tight plotting toward large-scale social philosophy, especially his idea of an “open conspiracy” for world reform.
