A first edition, first printing of ‘The Case is Altered’ published by The Hogarth Press in 1932. A very good book, neatly rebound with leather spine and patterned boards with mimicked dust wrapper – SIGNED on the title page by William Plomer. Some spotting to the edges. A wonderful presentation.

His third novel, published by the Hogarth Press after Turbott Wolfe and Sado. Set in London, it turns from colonial subjects to the precarious lives of boarding-house residents, exploring loneliness, dependence and emotional entanglement with sharp modernist sympathy. Leonard and Virginia Woolf championed Plomer, and the novel remains one of his more elusive early works, admired in its day.
