Description
The book records the experiences of a young subaltern who was at Sidney Sussex, Cambridge reading modern history when war broke out. He was also a member of the University Officers Training Corps and on 14th August 1914 was commissioned into the West Yorkshire Regiment. He did not sail for France until 20th July 1916 as one of several hundred reinforcements for the Regiment’s 2nd Battalion after they had lost three quarters of their strength in the July offensive. The battalion was withdrawn to rest and retrain and his account records twelve days after their return to the trenches in November 1916.
The only record of this book selling in dust wrapper was in 1937 for 6d, albeit an ex-library copy.
