A first edition, first printing published by Cape in 1983. A very good book without inscriptions. Some bumping to corners – small stain to foot of page block – some foxing. In a very good dust wrapper with some light loss to the corners. Not priced, or clipped and an internal repair to head of spine – a couple of small closed tears. In 1983, the year it was published, The Witches won three awards: The New York Times Outstanding Books Award, The Federation of Children’s Book Groups Award and The Whitbread Award. A film version of the story was released in 1990, and another in 2020 starring Anne Hathaway, Chris Rock and Octavia Spencer.
