The Tate Gallery, London, 1980. Original exhibition poster produced for the retrospective held from 2 July to 3 August 1980. Large format, illustrated in colour with Hockney’s portrait of Celia Birtwell and surrounded by his characteristically lively coloured decoration. Signed by David Hockney in red felt-tip pen across the lower title panel.
A bright and highly attractive example, retaining strong colours and complete margins. There is a small roughened area of surface abrasion close to the letter ‘v’ in the printed word ‘David’ at the head of the poster, together with only minor handling wear elsewhere. Overall in very good condition.
A particularly decorative signed Hockney poster, combining one of his best-known portrait subjects with the bold typography and playful graphic treatment of the original Tate exhibition design.
