Christie’s – The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor – Complete set comprising six volumes together with Elizabeth Taylor A to Z – New York: Christie’s, 2011
£600.00
First editions. Original pictorial wrappers, housed in the publisher’s illustrated slipcase.
“I have always admitted that I am ruled by my passions.” — Elizabeth Taylor
A magnificent record of one of the most celebrated auctions of the twenty-first century, documenting the extraordinary personal collection of Elizabeth Taylor—Hollywood legend, style icon and one of the world’s most celebrated jewellery collectors. Held by Christie’s in New York between 13 and 16 December 2011, the sale captivated an international audience, realising an unprecedented $184 million, then the highest total ever achieved for a single-owner private collection.
The collection comprises seven volumes:
- The Legendary Jewels (Evening Sale)
- Jewellery (Sessions II & III)
III. The Icon and Her Haute Couture
- Fashion and Accessories
- Fine and Decorative Arts & Film Memorabilia, including Costumes
- Gallery Guide
VII. Elizabeth Taylor A to Z, an illustrated companion celebrating the actress’s remarkable life, career and collecting passions.
Profusely illustrated throughout with superb colour photography, the catalogues document an astonishing array of jewels by Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels and Harry Winston, together with couture, paintings, decorative arts, costumes, memorabilia and deeply personal objects accumulated over more than half a century. Far more than an auction catalogue, the set serves as the definitive visual archive of one of the greatest private collections ever assembled.
The complete set remains in near fine condition, with bright, clean wrappers throughout, housed in the original illustrated slipcase. Increasingly difficult to locate complete with all seven parts, particularly in such well-preserved condition.
(We don't keep all of our stock in the shop, so send us an email if you're planning a trip to see a particular author or book.)
