First edition, first printing. Published by Chapman and Hall in London, 1839. This is a near fine copy. Bound in a standard contemporary green cloth with gilt titling. There is a red mark to the spine. The text blocks are markedly clean, however. The internals are also notably clean, with very little foxing or toning present. The frontispiece tissue guard is present. Correctly displays the word “sister” substituted for “visitor on page 123 line 17. Each of the Hablot Knight Browne (”Phiz”) illustrations are present throughout. This is a near fine copy.

Originally published as a serial from 1838 to 1839. The character of Nickleby is a young man who must support his mother and sister after his father dies.
