Description
First edition, first printing of The Giant Baby by Allan Ahlberg, published by Viking, London in 1994, illustrated by Fritz Wegner. A fine copy free from internal inscriptions, the text block bright and crisp. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with a little fading to the spne and bumping to the head of the spine.
The Giant Baby by Allan Ahlberg is a children’s novel about Alice Hicks, who longs for a little brother. Her wish arrives extravagantly when an enormous baby is abandoned on the family doorstep. Soon reporters, social workers, circus proprietors and scientists descend, while kidnapping, criminal schemes and a courtroom drama follow. Warm, absurd and fast-moving, it combines domestic comedy with fantasy, adventure and Ahlberg’s characteristic playful storytelling.
