A first edition, first printing of Fads, Fakes and Fantasies by Sjoerd Hannema, published by Macdonald, London in 1970. A good copy SIGNED and dated by Hannema in blue ink to the front free end paper, shelf wear to the grey paper bound boards, spotting and toning to the text block, staining to the fore-edge of text block, spotting and staining to prelims. In a good unclipped wrapper, fading to the spine with closed tears to the head and substantial loss to the heel of the spine, fading to the front panel and extensive chipping to the knuckles of the front and rear flap folds, shelf wear to the flap folds, spotting and staining internally. With two associated letters, one to the author from John Updike dated January 28th 1991, the other dated 8/4 with losses to the bottom half, written by Hannema and explaining the origin of Joe as his alternate name at the Rushkin School of Fine Art in Oxford, both letters with damp staining.
