A first edition, first printing of the first paperback edition published by George Allen and Unwin in 1968 – the first complete collection of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ – Containing the trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring / The Two Towers / The Return of the King and preceding the Deluxe Edition of 1969. This, a beautifully clean copy, without inscriptions., marks etc. Rebound in beautiful red Morocco leather with five raised bands, with gilt tooling and titling and marbled endpapers – blue and green leather panels to the spine. With the ‘Eye of Sauron’ vignette to the front board. Enclosed in a custom-made slip case, mirroring the red leather of the book and also with ‘Sauron’ vignette to the front panel. A beautiful example and stunning rebind – a must for any Tolkien fans.
