Description

First edition, first printing of ‘Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy’. Published by Doubleday in London, 1961. This is a very good copy. Tipped onto the half-title page is a note signed by both Laurel and Hardy. Some rubbing to the corners and spine tips. In a very good unclipped wrapper with a few nicks to the corners and some light internal repairs. Exceptionally scarce with the signature of both comedians.

Laurel and Hardy were a beloved comedy duo—Stan Laurel, the thin, clever Brit, and Oliver Hardy, the rotund, amiable American—famous for their impeccable timing, visual gags, and warm, chaotic camaraderie. From silent shorts to sound-era classics, they shaped screen comedy’s language. John McCabe, actor-scholar and founding Sons of the Desert member, wrote ‘Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy’, the first major scholarly biography of the pair. His book blends meticulous research with affectionate insight, chronicling their early careers, partnership, and enduring legacy. McCabe’s work remains a definitive portrait, celebrating both their artistry and their off-screen friendship.
