A first edition, first printing of Porterhouse Blue by Tom Sharpe, published by Secker and Warburg, London in 1974. A near fine book signed by a previous owner in black ink to the front free end paper, boards bound in original publishers red cloth with gilt titling to the spine, minor pushing to spine tips and corners, mild browning to text block with light spotting to top edge. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with chipping to the spine tips and knuckles of the front and rear flap folds, with closed tears to the upper and lower edge of front panel, with corresponding internal repairs to chipping and closed tears.

Porterhouse Blue by Tom Sharpe is a satirical novel set in Porterhouse, an old-fashioned, fictional Cambridge college. The story follows the bumbling and tradition-bound college as it faces modernisation efforts led by its new progressive Master. Chaos ensues when long-serving characters like Skullion, the college porter, resist change. The novel humorously critiques academic elitism, social class and conservative values through absurd situations, eccentric characters and sharp wit, making it a darkly comedic take on British institutions.
