Porterhouse Blue by Tom Sharpe is a satirical novel set in Porterhouse, an old-fashioned, fictional Cambridge college. The story follows the bumbling and tradition-bound college as it faces modernisation efforts led by its new progressive Master. Chaos ensues when long-serving characters like Skullion, the college porter, resist change. The novel humorously critiques academic elitism, social class and conservative values through absurd situations, eccentric characters and sharp wit, making it a darkly comedic take on British institutions.
