Sylvia Plath – Ariel – First UK Edition 1965

£650.00

A first edition, first printing of Ariel by Sylvia Plath, published by Faber and Faber, London in 1965. This is a very good copy with a previous owner’s name and address to the front paste-down, bound in original publisher’s red cloth, gilt titling to the spine, pushing to head of spine, rubbing to the corners, the text block with some toning, spotting to prelims. The similarly very good unclipped wrapper with toning to spine, losses to the head of the spine and chipping to the foot, chipping to the knuckles of front and rear flap folds, strips of fading to the front and rear flap hinges.

Ariel by Sylvia Plath is a powerful poetry collection published posthumously in 1965. The poems, known for their intense emotion and vivid imagery, reflect Plath’s struggles with mental illness, identity and personal relationships. Featuring some of her most famous works like Lady Lazarus and Daddy, the collection captures themes of despair, rebirth, and self-discovery. Plath’s distinctive voice and raw, confessional style make Ariel a seminal work in modern American poetry.
