As supernatural forces haunt the hotel, Jack’s sanity deteriorates, endangering his wife Wendy and psychic son Danny, who has “the shining,” a psychic ability that reveals the hotel’s terrifying past. The novel explores themes of madness, addiction and the destructive power of isolation.
