Description
A first edition, first printing of The Actual by Saul Bellow, published by Viking in 1997. A fine book signed by the author in black ink to the title page. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with some pushing to the spine tips.
Published in 1997, The Actual is Saul Bellow’s finely compressed novella of memory, ageing and enduring love. Harry Trellman, a wealthy, emotionally reserved businessman and gifted observer of human nature, returns to Chicago and joins the informal “brain trust” of elderly magnate Sigmund Adletsky. Through Adletsky, Harry is reunited with Amy Wustrin, his childhood sweetheart, whom he has loved for decades. Witty, reflective and tender, the story explores whether long-imagined happiness can finally become actual.
