A first edition, first printing of Pretty Polly Barlow and Other Stories by Noel Coward, published by Heinemann, London in 1964. This is a near fine copy signed by the author in blue ink to the front free end paper, boards bound in the original publisher’s navy blue cloth with gilt titling to the spine and Heinemann windmill motif blind-stamped to rear panel, minor white staining to front board and rear panel, the text block with some browning. The near fine unclipped wrapper with fading to the spine and pushing to the spine tips and to the knuckles of front and rear flap folds. Jacket designed by John Bance.

Pretty Polly Barlow and Other Stories by Noël Coward is a collection of witty, satirical tales exploring the intricacies of British high society. The title story follows Polly Barlow, a cunning woman who manipulates her way through life by marrying wealthy men. Other stories in the collection showcase Coward’s sharp humour and keen observations on human nature, touching on themes of ambition, vanity and the complexities of love and relationships, all delivered with his signature charm.
