Description
First edition, first printings. Published by Secker & Warburg in London, 1990-92. This is a fine set. The first title, ‘The War of Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts’, is in fine condition with an equally fine title! It is free from notable wear to the dust wrapper and has been neatly price clipped. The text blocks are free from chips and marks and the internals and text blocks are clean.
The second title, ‘Seńor Vivo and the Coca Lord’, again with a fine title, is also in fine condition. There is no notable wear to the dust wrapper and it has not been price clipped, showing the original £16.99 price. The boards are free from chips and marks and the text blocks are bright and clean.
The third and final title ‘The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman’, is in fine condition. There is slight creasing on the front flap, but it has not been price clipped and shows the original £14.99 price. The boards are free from chips and marks. This copy is also free from inscriptions and the internals, and text blocks, are free from toning or foxing.
Overall, this is a fine set of some of de Bernieres best work- a fine trilogy.
The author pays obvious homage to Latin American magic realism, in particular the comic awareness of life’s transcendence which characterises the work of Gabriel García Márquez. However, his political themes are clear and unambiguous.
