A first edition, first printing of ‘SS-GB’ published by Jonathan Cape in 1978. A near fine book with red topstain and no inscriptions – with SIGNED photo of Len Deighton to the front pastedown. In a near fine (or better) dust wrapper – a little rubbing to the corners. Complete with the rare pack of stamps. An ephemera item issued in small numbers to promote the launch of Len Deighton’s ‘what if?’ WW2 thriller SS-GB. The tiny item, the same size as a pack of royal mail stamps was issued alongside the book in a small number of locations on its launch date in 1978. The stamps are in fine condition and has been very carefully looked after. With the rare uncorrected Proof (which is actually titled ‘SS -’) – usual reading wear and vanishingly scarce.

SS-GB is a story about what would have happened if Hitler and the Nazis had invaded Great Britain. The ephemeral pack of stamps features 18 stamps in 3 different denominations and colours. Each stamp in the style of King George VI but instead with Hitlers head. There are also adverts along with a page that states ‘Observe the Curfew’. Not many of these are left due to many being recalled and destroyed – mainly by the Royal Mail, as they looked so real.
