The Eyes of Darkness is a 1981 thriller novel by Dean Koontz. It mentions a fictional bio-weapon called “Wuhan-400,” developed in China. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this led to viral speculation that Koontz had “predicted” the outbreak. However, similarities are superficial—Wuhan-400 is a man-made, deadly virus with different traits. The original virus in early editions was called “Gorki-400,” later changed to Wuhan for political reasons.
