Laurie Lee – Cider With Rosie – First UK Edition 1959 – with the WHSmith Annual Literary Award Band
£500.00
First edition, first printing. Published by The Hogarth Press, London, in 1959. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, beautifully illustrated at the hand of John Ward, is striking. It is slightly worn at the edges and has been neatly price clipped. There is a slight area of separation on the bottom right-hand edge, which is not visible when the book is closed. The boards, finely wrapped in the original publishers green cloth are without wear. The internals are generally clean and free from toning, however there is very slight foxing present on the text blocks which are otherwise white and clean. This copy is complete with the WHSmith band, announcing the WHSmith and Son Annual Literary Award of that year. The band itself is bright and in fine condition, with one slight frontal crease. This copy is free from previous owners ink and is, overall, in near fine condition.
The first book of a trilogy that continues with As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning and A Moment of War. It has sold over six million copies worldwide.
