A first edition, second issue, published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1985. This is the second issue which is smaller in size to the first issue and has the flash on the wrapper stating, ‘Shortlisted for the Booker Prize 1985’. The book has been signed and inscribed by the author to the ffep (and located, stating Orario). The book is very good only and has wear to the boards and a small black dot to the base of the page edge – no other inscriptions. In a near fine clipped wrapper which is a little sunned on the spine. Complete with the Booker Shortlist band. Hulme’s success with this title had a negative effect on her state of mind and she became reclusive. Signed copies of this title in any form are extremely rare and virtually unknown.
