First edition, first printing. Published by Michael Joseph in London, 1951. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper, with the iconic Patrick Gierth dust wrapper, has some slight chipping at the top and tail of the spine. There is one closed tear to the top edge of the front panel. There is slight shelf wear at the spine tips. It has not been price clipped, displaying the original 10s. 6d. net price. The boards are mostly clean in the original publisher’s cloth, with silver foil titling and some slight shelf wear. There are some surface marks to the rear panel. The text blocks are toned and with some sparse spots, but are otherwise clean. The author’s signature is inscribed ‘To Tony V. Cooper with the best wishes of John Wyndham, (John Benyon Harris). 22-8-51’. A fine inscription, located on the front fly leaf. The preliminaries are slightly foxed. Overall, this is a very good (or better) copy of a fine, scarce signed title.

After most people in the world are blinded by an apparent meteor shower, an aggressive species of plant starts killing people.
