£75.00

First UK edition, first printing. Published by William Heinemann Ltd. in London, 1954. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper, finely illustrated by Paul Galdone, is with mild wear. There are slight creases throughout (which have been enforced internally with tape) and very slight toning at the top edges. The corners are slightly worn. It has not been price clipped, however, showing the original 12s 6d net price. The rear panel, with the striking portrait of the author, is also slightly dirty. The boards are free from previous owner’s ink. The text blocks, although bright and generally clean, suffer from mild foxing throughout. The internals are free from foxing or spotting, and free from previous owner’s ink. Overall, this is a very good (or better) copy of a nice title.
The sequel to ‘Cannery Row’ and set in the years after the end of World War II. According to Steinbeck, “Sweet Thursday” is the day between Lousy Wednesday and Waiting Friday.
