A near fine book without inscriptions (small stain to the page edge – with Julian Barnes’ bookplate) in a near fine unclipped wrapper with some handling to the rear panel. Some light wear to the spine tips and corners. [With] the UK Proof. Plain brown wrappers with handwritten publication date and note that names of people and places will change before publication. These are in John Braine’s own hand. A good example and obviously a working copy, with a slant to spine, some spotting to page edges, creasing to corner tips and some ink marks to half-title and reverse of cover. Rare pair.
