First edition, first printing. Published by Collins, London, in 1975. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, nicely illustrated by Barry Glynn, is generally clean. There is slight wear to the corners and very slight creasing to the bottom of the front panel. The spine is very slightly faded and the rear panel has minor handling marks. The end papers are nicely illustrated with the ‘General area of Hobs End and Studley Constable’. The boards are free from notable chips and marks and the silver lettering is slightly worn. The text blocks are bright and clean, aside from the top which is slightly toned, and the internals free from previous owners inscriptions. Overall, this is a near fine copy.
Set during World War II. It was quickly adapted into a British film of the same name, directed by John Sturges and released in 1976. It starred Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland, Jenny Agutter, and Robert Duvall.
