A first edition, first printing of Sea-Wyf and Buscuit by J M Scott, published by Heinemann in 1955. A very good copy inscribed and dated in blue ink to the front free end paper, boards bound in publisher’s blue cloth with tarnished gilt titling to the spine, some toning to the spine, fading to the upper edge of front and rear boards, damp-staining to upper corners of both lightly bowed boards, some toning to the upper edge of text block. In a very good unclipped wrapper with chipping to spine tips, chipping to the knuckles of front and rear flap folds and bumping to the upper and lower edges of front and rear panels.

Sea-Wyf and Biscuit by J M Scott is a tense survival novel set during World War II. After their ship is torpedoed in the Indian Ocean, four survivors—a naval officer, a mysterious woman (Sea-Wyf), a bigoted colonialist, and a young seaman named Biscuit—are stranded on a lifeboat and later a desert island. As they struggle to survive, personal tensions and secrets surface. The novel explores themes of faith, identity, prejudice and the moral complexities of human nature under duress.
