In a near fine unclipped wrapper, the price crossed out by hand in blue ink, slight bumping to head of the spine, a small damp stain to the heel of the spine, fading to the spine.
Foe by J. M. Coetzee is a post-modern retelling of Robinson Crusoe. It follows Susan Barton, who is stranded on an island with Cruso and Friday. After their rescue, she seeks writer Daniel Foe to help shape her story, but struggles against his authority. The novel interrogates authorship, voice and silenced histories, particularly Friday’s mute presence. Through metafictional layers, Coetzee critiques colonial narratives and explores the power of storytelling, questioning whose voices are preserved and whose are erased.
