£125.00

First edition, first printing. Published by Gollancz in London, 1984. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper is the first state, correctly showing just the Greene and Carter reviews on the rear panel. It is not price clipped. The boards are free from notable wear and the text blocks are bright and clean throughout. This copy is free from previous owners ink and is, overall, in near fine condition.
Awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Like Ballard’s earlier short story “The Dead Time” (published in the anthology Myths of the Near Future), it is essentially fiction but draws extensively on Ballard’s experiences in World War II. The name of the novel is derived from the etymology of the name for Japan.
