Keri Hulme – The Bone People – True First UK Edition 1985
£175.00
A first edition, first printing published by Hodder and Stoughton and Spiral in 1985. A good book with wear and light stains to the boards. One name to the head of the front endpaper. In a very good clipped wrapper with fading to the spine. This is the first edition, first issue with Singapore mentioned on the copyright page. In 1984, the novel won the New Zealand Book Award for Fiction. The following year it won the Pegasus Prize for Literature, was earmarked for Māori fiction, and subsequently became the first New Zealand novel and first debut novel to win the Booker Prize. It was praised by authors such as Alice Walker, who said in a letter to Spiral that it “is just amazingly wondrously great”.
