Harry Harrison – One Step From Earth – SIGNED First US Edition 1970
£60.00
A first US edition, first printing of One Step From Earth by Harry Harrison, published by The Macmillan Company, New York in 1970. A near fine copy signed by the author in black ink to the title page, with bumping to the heel of the spine, thin strips of fading to the top and lower edges of the front and rear boards, rubbing to the corners of the boards and toning to the text block. In a very good unclipped wrapper with chipping to the spine tips, chipping to the lower edge of front panel, chipping to the knuckles of the rear flap fold, bumping to the knuckles of the front flap fold, front and rear panels a little rub worn. Jacket design by Carl Titolo.
One Step from Earth by Harry Harrison is a linked collection of science-fiction stories exploring the invention of instantaneous matter transmission. Each tale examines a different consequence of the technology, from scientific discovery and interplanetary travel to crime, warfare, commerce and social upheaval. Harrison treats the central idea with characteristic energy, humour and scepticism, showing how a miraculous invention might rapidly transform civilisation while creating unforeseen dangers, inequalities and opportunities for human ingenuity world wide.
