A first edition, first printing of In The Days of The Comet by H. G. Wells published by Macmillan, London in 1906. In the Days of the Comet by H. G. Wells follows William Leadford, a disillusioned young man whose personal turmoil coincides with global unrest. When a green comet’s gases transform Earth’s atmosphere, humanity undergoes a profound moral and psychological awakening. Violence, jealousy and social conflict dissolve into co-operative enlightenment. Wells uses this cosmic event to imagine a utopian rebirth, exploring themes of love, class struggle and human perfectibility as individuals and societies reform themselves under a new, peaceful consciousness.
