First edition, first printing of The Darling Buds of May by HE Bates, published by Michael Joseph, London in 1958. A very good copy free from internal inscriptions, the boards in publisher’s original red cloth with gilt titling to the spine, some rubbing to the heel of the spine and tarnishing to the gilt titles, toning to the text block and ghosting to the front and rear free end papers. In a similarly very good unclipped wrapper, toning to the spine, chipping to the spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds, strips of toning to the hinge and top edge of front and rear flap folds, spotting internally.
