A first edition, first printing published by Heinemann in 1942. A very good (or better) book with a previous owner’s bookplate to the front endpaper. Corresponding name to the front flap of the dust wrapper. Some spotting to the top edge of the dust wrapper. The wrapper shows some conservatory colour repair to the spine. There is a little chipping to the head of the spine and to the corners. The first time we have handled a copy in the last 15 years.
“Penhallow” by Georgette Heyer is a mystery novel set in an English country house. The story centres around the enigmatic and domineering Adam Penhallow, the head of the Penhallow family. When Adam is found dead under suspicious circumstances, it falls upon Inspector Hannasyde to unravel the tangled web of family secrets, grudges, and hidden motives that surround the murder. The novel delves into the complexities of family relationships and hidden animosities, with a cast of intriguing characters each harbouring their own secrets. Heyer’s signature wit and clever dialogue add depth to this classic whodunit, making it a compelling and engaging read.
