A first edition, first printing published by Peter Davies in 1951. A very good book with a stain to the front board and some associated wear – Bookplate to the front endpaper and some spotting. SIGNED and Inscribed to the title page, ‘To Maureen and Bim Baker Munton 1988/ Daphne du Maurier 1988’.
Monty Baker-Munton was a close friend and trusted confidant of Daphne du Maurier during the later years of her life in Cornwall. Together with his wife, Maureen, he became part of the author’s intimate circle, and their friendship endured for decades. Such was du Maurier’s trust in him that she appointed Monty as one of her literary executors.
