A first edition, first printing published by Gollancz in1954. A very good book, without inscriptions. Spotting is evident to the text block with off setting to the second free end papers. Some bumping to the spine tips and corners. In good, unclipped wrapper showing some loss to the head and base of the spine and corners. A one inch, closed tear runs alongside the bottom left side of the front panel.
Set during the Napoleonic Wars and based on du Maurier’s own great-great-grandmother.
