£6,500.00

For Pharmacy, Hirst’s restaurant in Notting Hill Gate in the late 1990s, Hirst himself designed wallpaper based on the pharmaceutical giant Merck’s handbook endpapers, showing pills and describing them. Merck’s objected, meaning Hirst withdrawing it as an artwork of wallpaper but had already plastered the restaurant with silver and gold versions, which remained. The piece for sale, protected by UV perspex, has small rips and damage, as well as thin pieces of plaster where the sheet was scraped from the wall of the restaurant. Later, for the Sotheby sale in 2004, limited editions of the wallpaper were produced. This, the original, is rare thus.

Accompanied by the original Sotheby’s catalogue from the Damien Hirst Pharmacy Auction in 2004. A near fine book complete with the full set of stickers intact.
In this auction, Hirst sold the art work effects from the Pharmacy Bar and Restaurant in Notting Hill, London; a symbol of Cool Britannia in the 90s. Rare.
